WaitToUnlock vs app blockers
Most app blockers fight the same battle. They put a wall in front of an app, then trust you not to walk around it.
The trouble is that you usually can walk around it. You control the app, the settings, and the phone, so the wall only holds for as long as your willpower does.
WaitToUnlock takes a different route. Rather than adding one more app, it locks the Screen Time passcode that iOS already gives you, and hands it back only after a wait. Here is how that compares to the popular options.

Why the difference matters
Opal, Freedom, Jomo and ScreenZen are well made, and for a lot of people they help. But they share one weakness: you are still the admin of your own phone.
When the urge hits, the escape routes are right there. You can:
- open Settings and disable the blocker,
- delete the app entirely,
- or tap through whatever "are you sure?" screen stands in the way.
The friction is real, but it is friction you can clear in seconds.
WaitToUnlock removes that escape hatch. It sets a random Screen Time passcode, walks you through entering it without ever letting you memorise it, then hides it.
To get it back, you start a 6-hour countdown and wait. There is no toggle to flip, because the thing standing between you and your apps is a passcode you simply do not know yet.
When an app blocker is the better fit
WaitToUnlock isn't trying to be everything. A dedicated blocker will serve you better if what you want is:
- soft nudges and reminders rather than a hard lock,
- per-app schedules and focus timers,
- or detailed usage charts and stats.
WaitToUnlock is for one specific moment: when you have decided you genuinely cannot trust yourself, and you want a lock you can't pick.
