Why I built this

Hi, I'm Dan, the founder of WaitToUnlock.

I hate subscriptions, and I really didn't want to install yet another app blocker on my phone just to use it less. iOS already has Screen Time built in, and it does almost everything you need. The only problem is the obvious one: I already knew my own passcode, so I could undo my own limits any time I wanted.

The usual fix is to have someone else set the passcode for you. Being an introvert, I found that awkward, I didn't want to keep asking another person to unlock my phone every time. So that's when I built WaitToUnlock: a way to set a Screen Time passcode I genuinely don't know, and then wait before I can get it back. No one else in the loop, no new app to install, no subscription.

What I care about

WaitToUnlock is independent and self-funded. There are no ads, and I will never sell your data. Your passcode is encrypted and only ever revealed to you. The product earns money one way: a single $9.99 payment for lifetime access, which is optional.

The simple design is on purpose. I like it that way, and there's a reason behind it:

• WaitToUnlock does one thing, and I'd rather it do that one thing cleanly than bury it under bells and whistles.
• If it ever feels a little plain, that's the point.
• The less there is to pull at your attention, the better it does its job.

I'd rather build something I'm proud of and stand behind than chase growth at your expense.
